The desk study should be carried out as the first stage of any site investigation and is frequently requested as part of a planning application.
The aims of this are to produce the conceptual site model which highlights the potential sources of contamination, the recptors and the pathway between them. A targeted intrusive investigation can then be based upon the information in the desk study.
The main components of a desk study are:
- Site Walkover
- Historical Maps
- Geology and Hydrogeology
- Landfill and Trades
- Flood Risk
- Bomb Damage Maps (London)
- Aerial Photographs
- Local Authority and Environment Agency Enquiries
- Conceptual Site Model
